Vitamin E oil is recommended to keep your fur baby feeling healthy and at his best! Some of the Vitamin E Oil benefits helps ensure that your dog is getting what they need through quality pet supplements, good quality kibble, approved skin oils and shampoos. Learn how to use it as a safe, natural solution for dogs’ dry, irritated, and itchy skin and so much more.

Are you noticing some dry flakes on your pup’s skin lately? Many dogs tend to develop dry skin on occasion but you will probably see more flareups during the wintertime.

Dry skin is easy to spot due to the small flakes of dead skin you can usually find in your dog’s fur or where they sleep.

A question I frequently get asked is, “What can I use my dog’s itchy skin? Can I use some Vitamin E oil?”

Not only can you – but you should use it. Your dog will thank you if you do because it’s so effective!

If you’re looking for safe and simple treatment options for your pup’s itchy skin, a little Vitamin E oil just might be what the doctor ordered to ease the discomfort and provide some vital moisturization.

What Is Vitamin E?

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble nutrient (and antioxidant) that is essential for your pet’s body to develop strong and healthy muscles. This vitamin can also help support their circulatory system as well as their immune system while helping to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.

Is Vitamin E Oil Good For Dogs?

Vitamin E is more than good for dogs—you might say it’s essential! ?

This oil is an essential, fat-soluble vitamin that is good for a dog’s muscles, heart health, liver, healthy skin, fur coat, and more.

Vitamin E oil is also an antioxidant that can help defend the body against free radicals in the skin and other cells which can lead to heart disease, cancer, and arthritis in dogs.

Vitamin E Oil Benefits For Dogs

There are so many numerous benefits when it comes to Vitamin E. Here are just 7 of the amazing Vitamin E Oil Benefits for dogs:

Healthy Fur Coat

Vitamin E nourishes the skin and fur, causing a shiny, silky coat. On the other hand, a deficiency in the same vitamin could lead to skin dryness, dandruff, rashes, and even skin lesions (yikes). This is why Vitamin E is an essential part of our MuttScrub product line!

Skin

Is Vitamin E oil good for skin? Oh yes!

This oil is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits as it soothes the sensitive skin underneath your dog’s coat.

You can even directly apply Vitamin E onto the skin by rubbing it in circles where needed.

Immune System

Cold weather can dry out the skin and compromise the immune system. Vitamin E can help with that!  It helps strengthen your dog’s immune system.

Vitamin E combines with minerals like zinc and phosphorus to boost your dog’s ability to fight diseases and infections.

In addition, this vitamin is integral in your dog’s quick recovery when he’s sick.

Increased Fertility

Give your mama pooch a dose of vitamin E to help her have healthy pups! Studies show that the mineral boosts fertility in animals, especially dogs.

Improved Eyesight

A famous researcher named Dr. Wilfrid Shute treated a champion Doberman Pinscher who became infertile and went blind with cataracts at age seven. After a few weeks of taking 300 IUs of Vitamin E daily, the dog sired several litters of puppies and, within three months, his cataracts cleared up!

Joints and Muscles

Vitamin E spurs muscle growth and improves motor functions for dogs. The same vitamin also promotes joint health by acting as a lubricant for your pup’s joints.

How To Give Vitamin E To Your Dog

Many times, the food you are feeding your dog (depending on the quality) will contain all the Vitamin E your dog needs. However, if you notice any skin problems that are flaring up or if your pet is recovering from an illness or injury, it may be helpful to give some additional vitamin E for a short amount of time.

These are three quick and easy ways to give your dog vitamin E supplements:

Oral Supplements

The first option I would recommend is to offer your dog oral supplements that can be taken with his food. Though I will say, it might be one of the harder ways as there is a chance that your pup might spit it out.

If you decide to use this method, the dosage you would administer depends on the size, age, and weight of your pooch. Of course, you will want to check and make sure your vet okays the extra supplement.

  • Smaller dogs and puppies under 2: vets recommend 400 IU of vitamin E in Fido’s diet.
  • Large dogs 2+ years: 800 IU of vitamin E is perfect
  • Sick dogs: the dose may be higher; check with your vet to be sure.

If you have any other questions about proper dosages, be sure to ask your vet!

Special Food

Another way for your dog to get vitamin E into their system is by feeding them high-quality kibble. Ensure that the dry food you buy is approved by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO).

Other safe and inexpensive food options for Vitamin E include:

  • Eggs
  • Salmon
  • Peanut butter
  • Spinach
  • Safflower oil
  • Dandelion
  • Sunflower oil
  • Soybean oil
  • Wheat germ oil
  • Peanut butter
  • Hazelnuts
  • Almonds

Using Vitamin E Oil Topically

My final recommendation on how to give your pet Vitamin E is through oils or dog shampoos applied directly to the skin. This method is best if your pooch suffers from:

  • Dandruff
  • Itchy skin
  • Lesions
  • Other skin problems

The Vitamin E in the products you use will not only alleviate their skin issues but also restore the luster in their coat.

Apply by rubbing gently into the skin in circular motions –  your dog will enjoy the massage and feel less itchy afterwards!
